Location Questions

Where are you located?

50 Shades of Hay is located about 25 kilometers south of Malmesbury in the Swartland area of the Western Cape, South Africa.

How far are you from Cape Town?

We are located 50km from Cape Town. This about a 40 min drive with minimal traffic.

How far are you from Cape Town International Airport?

We are 50km from the airport. This is about a 45 min drive with minimal traffic.

How far are you from Malmesbury?

We are 25km South of Malmesbury which is about a 20 min drive.

How far are you from Atlantis?

We are 21km away from Atlantis which is about a 20 min drive.

How far are you from Môreson Farm?

We are 14km away from Môreson and between a 10-15 min drive depending on the events taking place in the area.

How do I get to you?

How to get to us from Cape Town:  
• Travel along the N7 towards Malmesbury
• Travel past the Swartland Engen 1 Stop on left
• From the Engen travel a further 11km
• Take the off ramp to Atlantis (Exit 50) on the left
• Turn left at the stop street
• Travel 1 km down the Klein Dassenberg Road
• Turn right into Groenerivier Estate
• At gate phone for access
• Travel 2km down the dust road
• 50 Shades of Hay is on the right
(22 Groenerivier Estate)

You are welcome to contact us to get a map with directions from either Malmesbury or Cape Town side.

Weddings and Events

Do your packages include catering?

We do have packages where we provide the catering. These are usually in the form of Summer and Winter Specials and center around a mouth watering Spitbraai.

Alternatively we are happy to work with you to create a custom package with catering.

Can I bring in my own caterers?

You are welcome to bring in your own caterers, we have packages for venue hire which allows use of the catering kitchen.

Do you have an all inclusive wedding package?

We don’t offer a general all inclusive package but we do offer customised packages that can cover a variety of your needs. Send us all the details with a budget and we are happy to put together a package that suit your needs within your budget as best as we can.

Is there on site accommodation for the night before and/or of the wedding?

Yes, we have an accommodation block that sleeps up to 24 on the proerty.

Do you have a bridal suite?

Yes, we have a double room that serves as a bridal suite as well. There is a kitchenette as well as a bedroom so there is plenty space to get ready and a place to have some snacks while doing so.

It’s the perfect room for the bridal couple to stay in after the wedding as well!

Who does your catering?

We work with the lovely couple, Desmond and Irene of Desrene Hiring and Spitbraai Services.

Can we have the ceremony at 50 Shades of Hay?

Yes, there are some lovely places on the grounds where the ceremony can take place.  The favourite being next to the Koi Pond near the Stables Venue.  We provide a wedding arch, 20m red carpet and seating (chairs or benches) for the ceremony.

What happens about the ceremony if it rains?

Should it rain, the ceremony can take place in the Stables Venue or in the Clubhouse.

Can we move the tables in the venue?

Yes, you are most welcome to move the tables and set up how you chose.

What table options do you have?

We have 10 rustic pallet wood tables, 4 wooden white-washed tables and 6 round tables.  All can seat up to 10 people.

What seating options do you have?

We have rustic benches and white plastic chairs that have white or black chair covers.  We do not provide tie-backs.

Can I come and view the venue?

Yes, with pleasure. You can contact us via email, whatsapp or phone call to book a viewing. We are also able to accommodate some after hours appointments in the evenings.

Where can I find your wedding/event packages?

You can email us at bookings@50shadesbnb.co.za with your requirements and we will forward you our brochures.

Do you allow other functions as well?

Yes, we are open to birthdays, end of year parties, conferences, concerts etc. If you have an idea and would like to know if we can accommodate it then just ask!

Accommodation

How many people can you accommodate?

We can accommodate up to 24 people. Most of the rooms have a queen bed and sleep 2 but we do have a few rooms with single beds. Contact us for more info and the rom layout.

Do you have a swimming pool?

Yes we do. We provide swimming towels on request and ask guests to kindly adhere to the pool rules.

Do the rooms have TVs?

No, we aim to rather provide a peaceful environment where you can break away from the hectic city life and take in some fresh air in a peaceful environment.

Do the rooms have aircon?

Unfortunately they do not have aircons yet. We do provide fans for each room and you are welcome to cool down in the pool. Hopefully we will be able to put aircons in the rooms in the future!

Are the rooms self catering?

We have two self catering rooms within in the accommodation block. One is a single room with a kitchenette and a single bed. The other self catering room is a double room with kitchenette and sleeps 2.

Some of the other rooms have a small fridge and two rooms also have a microwave.

Do you have braai facilities?

We do have braai facilities. Should you wish to braai, just let us know in advance so we can provide the relevant cutlery and crockery. Braai wood and ice can be purchased prior to arrival, subject to availability.

Do the bathrooms have a bath or shower?

All our bathrooms have a toilet, basin and shower.

Where are the closest shops?

We are located in a farming area so shops are a short drive away. We would recommend going to Malmesbury where you will find a Spar, Checkers, Pick n Pay as well as a variety of restaurants or fast food places. Malmesbury is a 20 min drive away.

Alternatively, should you be coming from Cape Town side via the N7, you can stop at the Engen 1 Stop for some food.

General

What happens in the event of load shedding?

We have invested in Solar Power and therefore are no longer affected by load shedding. You can celebrate your event or stay with us knowing that you will not be left in the dark!

Are there any Uber or driver services in the area?

Unfortunately not. We are located in a farming area away from the busy city areas so there are no Ubers or driver services in the area. You would be able to get to us with a driver service but unfortunately most drivers are based closer to the city.

Do you have Wi-Fi?

Unfortunately not. We are working on a long term solution but based on the area we are in, it is not easy to get working Wi-Fi in our area that we can extend to an entire accommodation block. We are continuously working on trying to rectify this.

For conferences, we do have a solution that will extend to the venue for internet access.

Where are the closest shops and/or restaurants?

We are located in a farming area so shops are a short drive away. We would recommend going to Malmesbury where you will find a Spar, Checkers, Pick n Pay as well as a variety of restaurants or fast food places. Malmesbury is a 20 min drive away.

Alternatively, should you be coming from Cape Town side via the N7, you can stop at the Engen 1 Stop for some basic supplies.
